Where is it better to own a home, Pasadena or Irvine?

I am interested in a small single family home or a lot with two homes in southern Pasedena where I can walk to Cal. Poly Tech. ,walk to downtown, and walk to my daughter and son in law’s. I am especially interested in an estate or a foreclosure since I don’t have much income (for mortage payment).
